About the Committee Members

This page is intended to help the visitor connect real persons with the members of the committee. We are people from all walks of life with a vision of a monument that will last after we are all gone and forgotten. We wanted a place where a father can take his son or daughter and show them the sacrifice that was made by many. We wanted a place where a woman might take her elderly mother or father and help them understand why she felt the need to serve her country.

This Monument will be the place for reflecting and remembering.

Here are the members of the Adams County Veterans Monument Committee:

 

 

Sheryl Richardson , a Hastings native, is the Family Readiness Leader for the  267th ARNG based in Hastings. Sheryl’s husband served in Iraq with the 267th.

 

Joanna Faber is a 33-year member of the Holstein American Legion Auxiliary. Currently, Joanna is the District 10 President, an area that includes Adams County, Nebraska. Joanna has been employed at Bruce’s Furniture the past 18 years.

 

Janiece Junker has a family history of veterans. Janiece is currently the President of the Juniata American Legion Auxiliary.

 

Kim Wilder has worked in the Adams County Veterans Service Office for 15 years. Kim is in contact daily with veterans from all walks of life. This project, the Adams County Veterans Monument, has grown from an idea that Kim once had to a project that the entire Adams County will be proud of. Kim’s father is a veteran of the Korean War, and her brother is a veteran of the United States Army.

 

Laurence ‘Butch’ Sowers entered the service in Adams County in 1958 with the 3rd Armored Division. After his regular enlistment, Butch was attached to the 295th Army Reserve Unit in Hastings . In 1968 the unit was activated and Butch did a tour of duty in Vietnam . In 1971, Butch left the military. He is currently an active member of the VFW Post 1346 as well as a member of the Veterans Burial Detail in Hastings . Butch is a Past Post Commander VFW Post 1346 and Past District Commander VFW District 13.
